What we offer

Garden consultations

Firstly, we will visit you to assess your garden, discuss your requirements for your new garden, and advise on potential design and construction options. We will determine your individual requirements for your garden to ensure we can design an outdoor space that perfectly complements your lifestyle. From this first meeting, a design fee proposal will be produced for your review.

landscape design concepts

Following acceptance of our design fee proposal, we will start by producing hand sketched designs to give you an initial idea of what we have planned for your space and to make sure we are all on the same page. Once you are satisfied with our design direction, we will produce 2D and/or 3D design concepts to help you to visualise how your new garden will look and feel.

implementation

Then comes the fun part – the realisation of your dream garden! With the assistance of our sister company Prestigious Gardens, we will select and install your plant palette to bring the garden we designed for you on paper to life. Prestigious Gardens can also tend to your new garden throughout the seasons to ensure it establishes and thrives to the best of its ability.

About us

Design by Dale was founded in 2019 by Horticulturist and Landscape Designer Dale Smith as an outlet for his natural flair for and love of landscape design. Driven by our approach to sustainability, at Design by Dale we seek to increase the richness of any landscape in which we work by sourcing local materials wherever possible and selecting plants that will naturally thrive in their current surroundings.

Dale designs gardens and outdoor spaces that blend seamlessly into their landscape and surroundings thanks to his extensive plant knowledge and understanding of how to create a garden that will flourish from season to season with the right care.

At Design by Dale, every garden we create is deliberately unique, designed to perfectly fit the space in which it inhabits, and to complement each client’s individual wants and needs for their home. We love the process of transforming our clients’ outdoor spaces, breathing life into them, and creating a garden to be enjoyed all year round throughout the changing seasons. No garden is too large or small for attention from the Design by Dale team.

Dale Smith

Dale strongly identifies with ‘Ikigai’, a Japanese concept that translates to, ‘a reason for being’. Ikigai is the idea of finding and following one’s direction and purpose in life. Dale feels fortunate to have found his purpose early, and lives and breathes garden design and all things horticulture, deriving a great sense of joy from his work. Dale’s life-long love of plants and gardening inspires his creativity, which then enriches his design work. His landscape designs are strengthened by his high-level understanding and knowledge as a plantsman and horticultural master. He has a passion and awareness to bring to each landscape design he creates, resulting in plant-rich gardens that are strikingly beautiful and truly timeless. Dale is an accredited and registered member of the Australian Institute of Horticulture (AIH) and the Master Landscapers of South Australia (MLSA).
